The Value of General Practice Nurses

General practice nurses work in general practices as part of the primary healthcare team, which might include doctors, pharmacists and other specialist healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists.

Nurses working in general practice are highly skilled and vital professionals who play an essential part in the daily running of the general practice.

The role of the General Practice Nurse (GPN) is very diverse with a wealth of opportunities to deliver high-quality personalised care across the practice population.

The GP Nurse role remains a well-kept secret

National research was commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement and brings together
views, insight and evidence from a range of sources to create an emergent picture of the role and value of GPNs. GP Practices from Nottinghamshire took part in this important work.
